LEMAIRE FALL 2021

While fashion week looks a lot different this year (like everything else), I was pleased to spend yesterday morning watching the Lemaire Fall 2021 menswear runway show online. The male and female models emerged from the darkness as if they were at a secret speakeasy party, prohibited by the social distancing recommendations. I love how Lemaire always uses a similar cast of models. It’s as if they are old friends you expect to see at his shows. I especially love that he shows both menswear and womenswear on the runway, some models are so androgynous it speaks to how his clothing is fluid between the sexes. As always, we saw lots of head-to-toe monochromatic looks, but there was an added layer of ease this season. With plush fabrics mixed into the usual utilitarian offerings, scarves tied high around the neck and layers of bags piled on, there was a definite nomadic mood about this show. Maybe it says something about our society at the moment. People are a bit nomadic in the way that they are not chained to their desks anymore, with the flexibility of working from home, which is essentially anywhere at the moment. Maybe it is more of a nod to the future, a hopeful insight to traveling again. Either way, the collection was made up of all things inherently Lemaire, colors that read as neutrals, crisp reasonless fabrics and oversized silhouettes that feel fresh now and will continue to withstand the test of time in one’s closet.
