Design Inspiration | Project de. I XV

The first month of the year is coming to a close and minimalism is at the forefront of my mind. Minimalism is all about deliberate and thoughtful design. I find endless design inspiration in the minimalist architectural aesthetic of John Pawson. My mood board includes pictures from Pawson’s Novy Dour Monastery and the Design Museum of London. The muted colors and architectural integrity of his work are a significant influence on my designs. Come back tomorrow to see my first garment of the year for Project de.

For Project de. 2015, I’m focusing on creating 12 cohesive pieces that make up a capsule collection. For the first piece, I chose to create a casual tunic silhouette in a structured lux fabric of silk zibeline. The color, entitled “moonbeam,” dances between utilitarian khaki and silver. Simple but significant details include slit sleeves, an exaggerated shirt tail hem and pleats at center front and back.
