In my quest to switch over to non-toxic beauty products, I brought it up at a party one evening, only to discover that another party-goer had the same concerns. This is when Bryn Sanders and I connected and proceeded to spend the rest of the evening on the subject. All the while educating anyone within earshot, about the dangerous chemicals in their beauty and personal care products. After converting a few of our friends, we immediately set a date to continue our conversation and to discuss the line of products by Beauty Counter, a brand that has taken it upon themselves to produce safe beauty products and cosmetics.

I had other friends recommended the shampoo and conditioner as well, so after smelling it, I was happy to order it for myself. I also picked up the Rose Water spray, which I like to use after I wash my face to neutralize anything in the tap water that might be harmful. It is also super refreshing on a hot summer day and great to use under face oil. I haven’t tried Beauty Counter’s oils just yet, but they are on my list and come highly recommended by Bryn. She even mixes the oils in with their face and body moisturizers, for extra nourishment.

I am not trying to scare you, but instead, educate you as a consumer, because the choices are vast. Spending your money on non-toxic beauty products is the best way to get the industry to change for the better. Here are some lesser known facts:

– The United States has not passed a federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.

– Brands such as Johnson & Johnson have chemicals in their products that were proven to cause cancer, and they continue to sell these products that you use on your kids every single day.

– The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients, the US has only banned 11 to date.

– At Beauty Counter, they’ve banned more than 1,500 ingredients, setting a new health and safety standard.

– Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data, most have not been researched at all.
